Summer Construction and Maintenance to Begin May 20

• University Drive Resurfacing Project Preparation – May 20 - 31   Details Below

University Drive, between Capitol Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue, will be resurfaced from June to September by the Ada County Highway Department (ACHD). In preparation for resurfacing, a water main pipe will be replaced and pedestrian ramps will be added to sidewalk corners without them.

United Water will be replacing a water main pipe, in operation since 1941, on University Drive between Brady Street and Chrisway Drive. University Drive will be restricted to one lane in both directions from May 20 - 31. Brady Street will be closed northbound and a flagger will be present to help direct traffic given the signal light at Chrisway Drive will be turned off. Motorists can expect minor delays when traveling this portion of University Drive.

Pedestrian ramps, a must for accessible access and a convenience for pedestrians, will be installed on corner curbs along this same section of University Avenue. Some jackhammering noise and intermittent road obstruction can be expected. Pedestrians and motorists should take caution when traveling this section of University.

More details will be provided regarding the resurfacing project itself.

Construction Narrows East End of Cesar Chavez Lane

Site-related construction for the new Gene Bleymaier Football Complex will narrow Cesar Chavez Lane to 20 feet, from March 8 through early July, with intermittent westbound lane closures. Motorists and cyclists are asked to use caution when accessing Cesar Chavez Lane between the entrances to the east and west stadium parking lots.

“Our goal is to protect motorists and cyclists yet minimize inconvenience as much as possible,” said Nicole Bandas, assistant director, Transportation and Parking Services. “Cesar Chavez Lane will be narrowed but open to two way traffic, especially during events like BroncoFest 2013, with intermittent westbound lane closures as needed. We are asking cyclists to remain on the Greenbelt.”

Site construction includes landscaping and installation of sidewalk for the new Gene Bleymaier Football Complex. This complex will host the football program and includes coaches’ offices and meeting rooms, an academic center, recruiting lounge, weight room, athletic training room, equipment room, student-athletes lounge and home locker room.

Please refer to the map below for clarification about where the construction will take place:

New Parking Rules for University Drive by the SUB

To improve campus safety as well as to improve access for charter buses and delivery trucks, there are new parking rules for University Drive by the Student Union Building and the Lincoln Garage. The curb-side areas outside of these two buildings are now designated commercial loading or transit stop zones only, and there will be no public parking in these areas. This is a change of policy that will make the campus safer for pedestrians, as well as making access more convenient for those visiting the Student Union Building. Please refer to the map linked below for details:
